Gary Perez of Borongan, E. Samar, adjudged as the Regional Awardee of Region VIII for 2011 Holcim ‘galing Mason Awards during the Regional Skills Demo Competition held in PTC-Carmen, Cebu on Sept. 22-23, 2011.

The 2011 Search for Holcim ‘galing Mason Awardees honors the top masons who have shown great pride and outmost improvement in their field, while being responsible members of both the family and the community. Recognizing skills, reliability and professionalism among masons, Holcim aims to inspire and empower with the said initiative.
With this, Holcim has tapped the aid of various private and government institutions in the country to draw significant participation and reach for the one of a kind Search. Among the partners for the Search are the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), which screens nominations for the Search, the Philippine Construction Corporation and Association of Construction and Informal Workers (PCC/ACIW), which gathers noteworthy nominees from their member companies, the Gawad Kalinga Foundation (GK), which serves as the testing ground for nominees in their various projects nationwide, and several Local Government Units which aids in searching for potential Mason Awardees from the grassroots level.

The well received initiative to recognize the skills and competence of Filipino masons nationwide is seeking to garner a larger turnout and broader scope on its third run.  The Holcim ‘ galling Mason Awards is open to experienced Filipino male and female masons certified by TESDA and below 50, whose productivity index has been rated high.

The selection process shall be undertaken at the Provincial, Regional and National levels. Winners at the Regional level shall compete for the National Award.

Nominations for the 2011 Holcim ‘Galing Mason Awards can be submitted by any duly registered organization, company, civic and professional organization, community association, NGO, People’s Organization (PO), and LGU, who can provide information about potential nominees.

Nomination forms can be secured from various TESDA offices, Holcim Plant and Sales offices, Philippine Construction Association Regional chapter offices, and the Nation Union of Building and Construction Workers Regional chapter offices for NCR and Davao.

Duly filled nominations are to be submitted the TESDA Provincial and Regional offices. Nominations are accepted until June 30, 2011.
Prizes at stake for the Holcim ‘galing Mason Awards are Php 25,000 for the Regional Winner and Php 150,000 for the Grand Winner.  A Php 50,000 incentive shall also be awarded the chosen social project by the nominating group.
